About Jane

Jane Reeves

Jane’s fused glass pictures are inspired by frequent visits to the south west of England. Jane works from her studio in Bristol and has a particular love of the Cornish coast, where the clear quality of the light, the energy captured where the sea meets the land and the refreshing spirit of the landscape define the content of her work.

“I love the colours and simple shapes of the fused glass. Its nature dictates a naive quality that is instantly pleasing. I really enjoy the creative process, remembering the places that I am depicting, and I always have a feeling of excitement at seeing the transformation from cut glass fragments into a fusion of coherent jewel-like colours”.

Jane graduated from Bath Academy of Art in 1987 and worked in theatre publishing and illustration before concentrating on painting. Her fused-glass pictures are a direct development of her painting, and her innovative techniques, combined with an understanding of composition and colour, create beautifully vibrant and uplifting images that take full advantage of the unique qualities of the glass.

“I do not live by the sea – I don’t know that I ever will, but that is why I love to paint the sea or fuse it in glass – it is the response to a longing to be standing on the shore… that place where sand, sea and sky meet.

Memories inspire my work, capturing a moment in time with colour, texture and composition. Accumulated memories of actual times and places, simple moments of ‘well being’ captured on canvas or fused in glass. Sometimes it can be a tricky process, but it is often a life-giving journey… my hope is that this sense of ‘well being’ is just starting its journey as the picture is passed on to someone else.”

Jane is a member of the Contemporary Glass Society.
